George Cruise to Anglesey and the Menai Strait

George Cruise to Anglesey and the Menai Strait  – Thurs 27th April to Sun 30th  / Mon 1st May

Get your sailing season off to a bright start by joining our shake-down cruise to Anglesey over the May bank holiday weekend.

George cruises are open to all boats owned or skippered by George members. All you need do is let us know by email that you intend to participate, to enable us to plan moorings and social events.

The Plan

The focus of this cruise is on a circuit of Anglesey. The scenery between Anglesey and mainland Wales is wonderful, and the passage presents some interesting sailing and navigation challenges including two bridges and the Menai Strait. There are a number of welcoming yacht clubs and possibilities for other diversions ashore.

Participating boats will come alongside the George pontoon on Thursday evening 27th April by 8.00pm (for sailing supper and skippers briefing), with boat and crew ready for a weekend’s cruising.  As the plan to cross Caernarfon Bar is very much subject to weather conditions, exact details will be communicated at the briefing. It is important therefore that all skippers are present for the briefing.

Boats who can get away early Thursday may prefer to sail across to Holyhead or Port Dinllaen by day, and proceed to the muster point on Friday morning. Just remember that tides are strong around Anglesey. Let us know if this is your intention.

There will be no mass start as such. Skippers will cast off at will. However, all skippers must plan to arrive at the designated muster point off Caernarvon bar late on Friday morning to catch the tide over the bar.  Exact details later.
