Aurelia wins the Shindilla Cup – RSGYC End of Season Race 2019

Despite strong winds gusting up to 25 knots, the annual End of Season Race for the Shindilla Cup took place on Friday evening.

The pursuit race, organised by Vincent Delany and ably supported by Philip & Diane Ferguson, Jill Fleming provided a staggered start for competitors from 6pm to almost 6.30pm.

Due to the strong winds, the dinghy race was cancelled but this did’nt dissuade the skillful Conor O’Leary in a Laser completing the course barefoot no less for which he received a special prize of a pair of RNLI socks!

Competition on the water was extremely close with the top 4 boats finishing within 2 minutes of once another. All competitors received various special prizes including a set of RNLI Playing Cards awarded to SANTE for attempting to ‘bribe’ the Race Committee with Mars Bars! Other prizes were awarded to JITTERBUG and ESCAPADE, whilst failing to start, received RNLI Calendars and Diaries respectively to assist in future planning on the water.

Line honours for the coveted Shindilla Cup went right down to the wire with only a port-starboard call on the final approach to the finish leaving NAUTI-GAL (Jason Crawford) with her crew of Mexican Banditos featuring sombreros and moustaches as runners-up and AURELIA (Dave McGlew) supported by Duncan Lyster, Dave Turner and junior family members as winners of the Shindilla Cup and the 2019 End of Season Race!
