Emily Conan and Lauren O’Callaghan have qualified to represent Ireland in the 29er class at the Youth World Championships to be held in the Hague from 8-15 July. The other Irish qualifiers are Eve McMahon and Rocco Wright of Howth YC.
Emily and Lauren achieved the Irish Sailing qualifications by winning the National Girls 29er event at Ballyhome in April. They were then required to finish in the top 20% of a designated International Competition. This was the Dutch Nationals held in Workum from 25- 29 May. In an International fleet of 92 boats, they finished 4th girls pairing and beat the 20% cut-off. The event was held in 15-25 knot winds.
Emily and Lauren will now prepare for the ISAF event with the assistance of Irish Sailing who will provide one of their performance coaches as support.
