Brittany Cruise 2015 Report

The 2015 George Brittany Cruise. What a story. The Cruise in Company in South Brittany was only a part of it. Nine boats were togged out and ready to go by early-June. But then the challenges commenced.

John Bourke made two forays from Vigo into persistent NE gales off Cape Finisterre before retreating to A Coruna. With the boat now in the wrong place, logistical/crew problems prevented Grand Slam from joining us in Brittany. Next to fall was Dennis Woods and Il Flauto Magico who had to withdraw because of a family bereavement.

The remaining boats (“The Magnificant Seven”) overcame their own challenges to get to Brittany, not to mention getting home again!

John Duggan completed a sailing odyssey from Lisbon to Brest and back again. David Bagnall came from Vigo and proceeded to Arzal after the George Cruise. Colm Kelliher sailed from Lymington and made a very fast dash back to base afterwards. Bob Jones joined us from Swansea and showed all of us how to co-ordinate ferries, cars, and crew changes. John Crebbin and Ocean Gypsy came from and returned to their base in La Roche Bernard.  Paul Dobbyn and Birmayne had a very unlucky series of gear failures. That leaves us with Fran Griffin and Sister Act II. They enjoyed themselves so much they are still out there – the boat was last seen in Falmouth.

Souvenir booklet
We are considering producing a souvenir booklet. I have some material already, and I ask all skippers to send me an account of your trip by end of September if you have not already done so. Focus on the places you visited between the official gatherings and your passage to and from Brittany.

Photos
Don’t forget to send your cruise photos to David Bagnall at davidbagnall@bsmconsult.com or at 087-2302518 again by end of September. Some photos will be used for the booklet and some for the competition /exhibition at the November dinner.

I look forward to seeing you all on 14th November.
