SUMMARY:George Oppie Coaching
DESCRIPTION:01 March 2019 \nA note from the Optimist Class Captain- Brendan Foley\nFirstly\, if you want your child to be able to compete in a race and have general competence in a boat then coaching is essential. A two-week sailing course in the Summer is just not enough\, like all other sports the more time you spend on the water the better you become\, while at the same time building friendships and having fun. We have 5 buddies who are all just back from Baltimore Oppie training week who started the race training last year in the club and they are all buzzed as well as filling 4 of the top 5 places at the regatta. (Sales pitch over!) \nOur training goal; that the sailor can compete and enjoy sailing in a regional Optimist Championship and or the National Championships. (We have a Nationals and 2 regions event on the North side of Dublin this year so a great opportunity for your participation). \nWe will have two training groups; \nImprover Oppie\nAimed at those starting in Oppies and who can sail a three-point course (beat\, reach\, run). They will be taught how to start and complete a race by friendly and attentive coaching staff. At the end of the coaching they will be able to race in Regatta Fleet at the regional championships and local regattas. \nRegatta/Main Fleet Oppie\nAimed at those who are more advanced\, have raced and will be sailing at IODAI (International Optimist Dinghy Association of Ireland) Events. They will be taught racing techniques by motivated and skilled coaches. \nIf you are not sure which group your child should be in\, please contact me. We reserve the right to move people up and down in each group so that we can ensure each child gets the right level of support. We will have a very good coach to sailor ratio and the coaches will give you an update as to what group best suits your child as we go. \nDates\nWe will run 3 programmes. \n\nMarch – 10th\, 17th\, 24th\, 31st / €120\nApril – 7th\, 21st\, 28th (no sailing 14th as Club lift in) / €85\nMay – 5th\, 12th\, 19th\, 26th / €120\n\nEach program needs to be booked in full and if the weather is too bad to sail the coaches will run land based theory and rigging practice. \nBooking link: Click here \nFormat\n1300 Sailor arrives fed (Arrive at 1230 if you need rigging assistance) \n1330 Fully rigged and launched \n1530 Back off water and debrief \n1600 Collect sailor and help them put their boat away \nEquipment Required\n+ Optimist in full working order\, with 2 bailers\, paddle and painter (tow rope) \n+ Snacks and water in a dry bag \n+ Warm sailing gear\, sailing gloves\, hat (no shorty wetsuits) \nParental Support\nWe are all volunteers providing this training so we need parental support specifically; \n+ Have your child there on time and collected on time. \n+ All parents will be asked to do shore parent for one training session (on land safety person) \n+ Help your sailor rig if they are inexperienced \nFinally\, I cannot express how much my kids have gained from the friends\, fun\, knowledge and competition that the Royal St George Oppie training have given us. So we would love to see you and your little sailor there. \nWHAT YOU NEED TO DO\nPlease respond to this note if you intend to take up on Programme A\, B\, C or all / combination – include your sailor name and age please. \nAny questions – give me a buzz 087 6292324 \nClick here to book onto training. \nYours in sailing\, \nBrendan Foley- Optimist Class Captain \n++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

SUMMARY:Family Open Day
DESCRIPTION:Family Open Day – Saturday 1st June (bank holiday weekend) from 1pm to 4pm \nThe purpose of the Open Day is to encourage new member families and prospective member families to sample some of what the club has to offer for families. \nJunior Section \nThe Royal St George Yacht Club has the largest junior section of the four waterfront Dun Laoghaire clubs. The summer programme spans from 4th June to 23rd August 2019 over six modules. The courses are designed for children from 5 years of age up to 16/17 years. There are courses to introduce children to sailing up to racing and advanced boat handling.\nThe course fees include lunch and run from 9.30 to 16.30 each day. (for children 5- 7 the course is half days 9.30 to 13.00)\nNon-members can participate in a single sailing course provided a member of the club sponsors the child. Please contact the sailing office for further details.\nFor more details see the club website under the “Junior Section”\nFor the open day we will show children some of the boats our juniors sail and invite them onto the water with experienced sailors in a club boat. \nRIB Rides \nThe club has a fleet of RIB boats which it uses and also makes available to members for rent. We will bring families out in our RIBS to take a spin out of the harbour to watch the Dublin Bay Sailing Club fleet racing in action. Get up close to the racing fleet and get a taste of what club racing is all about. \nSailing \nThe club has its own fleet of over 70 boats. Join us for a fun sail around the harbour in one of the club boats with experienced crew to guide you.\nRowing Machines\nThe club has recently launched our “Rowhouse” which contains a number of rowing machines. There are regular training and fitness classes held in the club led by Olympian\, Niall O’Toole. Try out our rowing machines to see is this something for you. An absolutely excellent way of keeping fit. \nPrefer to stay on dry land? \nThe RSGYC has wonderful facilities ashore. We have well appointed Members and Formal Bars opening onto a deck overlooking Dublin Bay. Our bay fronted dining room is a great room for our larger events and dinners and our library is a more intimate and atmospheric space for smaller meetings and dinners. \nSailing Gear \nIf you have your own sailing gear please bring it. If not\, we have everything you need to get out on the water safely. Bring a change of clothes and a towel to dry off if planning to go on the water. \nFood & Drink \nThe club will be serving its brunch/lunch menu from 1pm to 4pm on the day. Families can enjoy food and drink either in the Member/Formal Bar or on the forecourt if the weather is good. \nIn order to plan for numbers participating we ask families to register in advance by emailing reception@rsgyc.ie
