SUMMARY:Supper and Talk with Des Ekin
DESCRIPTION:Des Ekin\, author of bestselling book The Stolen Village\, will talk about one of the most dramatic stories in Irish history – the pirate slave raid known as “The Sack of Baltimore”. \nIn June 1631\, a joint force of pirates from Algiers and armed troops of the Turkish Ottoman Empire stormed ashore at the sleepy little harbour village of Baltimore\, Co. Cork\, and abducted nearly all the villagers. More than 100 people – mainly women and children – were borne away to a life of slavery in North Africa. Only two of them ever saw Ireland again. \n\nThe Stolen Village is a fascinating tale of international piracy and culture clash nearly 400 years ago and is the first book to cover this relatively unknown and under-researched incident in Irish history\, shortlisted for the Argosy Irish Nonfiction Book of the Year Award. \nThis event will begin at 7pm\, consisting of a talk followed by a two course supper for €25. \nBook your place today by calling the Club at 01 280 1811 or emailing Eleanor housemanager@rsgyc.ie

A detailed training plan for all sailors will be developed to ensure everyone gets the most out of the Winter sailing. We will be holding a 3 day clinic and Halloween\, with coaching designed to cater for both experienced Feva sailors and those newer to the class. Regular Sunday coaching will run through November and we will finish off with a weekend training/racing in December 5th/6th. For a full list of winter training\, please see our Feva Winter Training for more information. \nTo sign your child up for the Jelly Bean Factory Junior End of Season Regatta 2015\, click http://www.nyc.ie/2015/09/junior-end-of-season-regatta-2015/”>here. \nIf you would like your child to sail Feva’s this winter and have not received any Feva updates recently\, please contact us and we will be happy to add you to the Feva mailing list. The Feva Class Captain is Elaine Malcolm who has helped grow interest in the class over the past 12 months with RSGYC teams successfully competing in the Feva World Championships in Germany over the summer and in the various national championships also.

SUMMARY:RAYC Laser Liffey Challenge
DESCRIPTION:Who will be the Royal Alfred Yacht Club King of the River 2015?\nThis year’s edition takes place on Saturday\, October 3rd.  Last year\, Radial Youth Champion Conor O’Beirne switched into a Full rig and beat all-comers\, edging former top ranked Full rig sailor and recent RS400 Southerns’ winner Paul MacMahon into 2nd.  Eighteen Lasers raced between the East Link Toll Bridge and the Samuel Beckett Bridge on a lovely Autumn day.  O’Beirne took away a famous old trophy with a great pedigree from previous Liffey events for Sportsboats – 1720s and after that SB3s (as they were called back then).  With good local turnouts in Laser Full rigs all Summer on Dublin Bay and an open invite to 4.7s and Radials to come along (with a separate start on offer) we hope to exceed that number this year.  It’s also a great way for Laser sailors from Dun Laoghaire\, Howth or wherever to warm up for the various Frostbite series.\n\nRAYC Commodore Barry MacNeaney will again be RO and is known for starting races quickly to keep things on the go. There’ll be as many races as possible before the Bridge lifts again at 16:00 hours! Launching is at the hosting Poolbeg Yacht Club with great spectating along the Quays or perhaps with a coffee or glass of wine on board the “Cill Airne” restaurant/bar ship. \nAfloat report from last year:  http://afloat.ie/sail/sailing-clubs/royal-alfred-yacht-club/item/26893-royal-st-george-laser-sailors-win-royal-alfred-liffey-challenge \nCheck out NOR and Online entry at: http://www.royalalfredtemp.com/
