SUMMARY:Firefly 70th Anniversary Fleet Racing Event
DESCRIPTION:The UK Firefly fleet sailors are returning to the George after 10 years to celebrate the 70th Anniversary of the Class.\nThe 60th event was a great success and the sailors want to come back to Dun Laoghaire again and celebrate. Back in the late 1940’s the late Dr Jimmy Mooney (1948 Olympics Torquay Firefly) & Dr Alf Delany were the George hot shots. Jim Bramley of West Kirby Sailing Club is the driver of the event in England and he is coordinating the event with the George again. It will be sailed in the Club Fireflies and a celebratory dinner will be held in the dining room on Saturday 9th April. \nAll those Firefly X’s who can no longer get under the boom are welcome to come and party with the more lithe of limb racing. \nContact Ronan Adams Sailing Manager for more details.

SUMMARY:Lift in 2016
DESCRIPTION:It’s that time of year again when all the work is done and it is time to start enjoying the new season!\nThe annual Lift In will take place on Saturday April 16th with nearly 40 boats scheduled to be launched on this date – the start of the sailing season for many boat owners. There has been a flurry of activity in the Boatyard and this will continue right up to launch time for each boat. Lift in is a carefully coordinated operation between the Boathouse team and an experienced group of Boat owners and volunteers\, using a large 120 ton crane. \nThis is an impressive and enjoyable operation to watch from the safety of the Club Deck but please appreciate that the Lift Area will be a working boat yard with no unauthorised access on the day. \nIf you would like to assist with the Lift In\, please contact Ronan Adams – Sailing Manager \nFurther information and the Lift In schedule can be found here.

SUMMARY:Book Launch Of ‘Ireland's Aviator Heroes Of World War II’ By John C. Hewitt
DESCRIPTION:On April 19th\, John C. Hewitt will launch his landmark collection Ireland’s Aviator Heroes Volume 2. Having spent 40 years meeting and interviewing the Irish airmen who flew with the RAF during the Second World War\, this beautiful collection is a piece of history.\nJohn has painstakingly and extensively researched individual stories through interviews with the surviving subjects and their families and using the original log books and service records of the men. Many of the stories contain details of the individuals’ participation in important wartime campaigns\, although others are limited to war service records due to a lack of surviving information. Above all this book celebrates the great courage and sacrifice demonstrated by these Irishmen during their contribution to the Allied war effort against Nazi Germany\, her western allies and Japan. Many of the men included paid the ultimate price for their participation. The book is illustrated with many photographs\, some taken by the subjects themselves. \nJoin John to launch this superb collection on Tuesday 19th April\, 2.30 to 4.30pm. \nThis will be in bookshops\, or you can also preorder your copy online here: \nIreland’s Aviator Heroes Vol II by John C Hewitt \nTo book your place\, please call the Club at 01 280 1811 or email Eleanor at housemanager@rsgyc.ie
