An afternoon in the life of a Squirt learning to sail in the Royal St George Yacht Club.
After a pep talk from instructor Cliona Kirwan, four sea squirts – Jennifer, Sophie with instructor Cliona in one of the George’s Mirrors, and Louis and Conor in an Optimist – set sail across the harbour, with the dads in a club rescue boat looking on, last Saturday afternoon. While the girls apparently discussed the X Factor in detail, the boys were more concerned about forgetting to go to the toilet before going out on the water! The sun shone for the duration and there was a nice gentle breeze which meant that they could try out various closed hauled and running manoeuvres, as well as tacking and gybing around the empty cruiser moorings, both in front of the George and the National.
