What is Powerboating?

Powerboats, speedboats, and RIBs offer a fast, exciting, and versatile way of getting into boating. Because of their speed and because they can be easily towed behind a car, they are great for trips and exploring both at home and on holiday. Powerboats provide a popular, relatively affordable, and exciting way of getting afloat. They are perfect for families wanting to get afloat and explore, picnic, ski, or dive.

Why do an Irish Sailing Training Course?

An Irish Sailing training course provides the ideal way to get afloat for the first time, or to build on skills you already have. All courses follow a syllabus used across Ireland and are led by a trained and qualified Irish Sailing Instructor. Each course is carefully designed to provide you with all of the skills and confidence you need to get you out on the water and to get the most out of your boating.

Our two-day National Powerboat Certificate course has been operating for 25 years and hundreds of members and guests have learnt key skills to use RIBs and small open powerboats safely.

Perhaps you are planning to buy a RIB or have friends using yours, or aiming to obtain an International Certificate of Competency (ICC) to rent boats abroad or just use the club’s own boats for hire locally.  If so, one of our powerboat training courses is for you!

The course syllabus is very comprehensive and while prior experience and basic skills are a requirement, these can also be gained on the course with follow-up time afloat to follow for logbook requirements to have the certificate awarded.

This is an action-packed and informative two-day course that flies by with plenty of activity afloat and in the classroom.  Our experienced instructors are fun and engaging and we have the feedback from past participants to prove it!

This Course is Open to Members and Non-Members/ guests. (RSGYC Members – contact the sailing office for your Members discount).  Participants must be 16 years of age or older and be comfortable in a small craft that can be physically demanding.  For those with mobility concerns, specialist boat courses can be arranged subject to demand.

Will I be able to safely use the Club Ribs upon successful completion of the Irish Sailing National Powerboat Course Levels 1 & 2?
