It was founded in 1816, with its inaugural meeting taking place on 30 September 1816 at the Rose Tavern in Donnybrook, Dublin. Its membership spans both professional and amateur gardeners.
The Royal Horticultural Society of Ireland runs lectures, workshops, plant sales, flower shows, demonstrations and exhibitions. Members get free or half-price entry to more than 50 partner gardens around Ireland, plus garden visits and organised tours both in Ireland and abroad. They also publish the RHSI Journal, which focuses on gardening advice suited to the Irish climate.
