RSGYC Rowing Club — Going from Strength to Strength

It has been a wonderful few months for the newly reformed RSGYC Rowing Club. With membership growing and enthusiasm high, the Club is warmly welcoming new members to come down, get involved, and discover one of the most rewarding ways to experience the water.

Last weekend saw a significant milestone as the team made their first away trip, travelling to the Irish Masters Coastal Championships 2026 in Glenarm, Co. Antrim. Unfortunately, strong winds forced the cancellation of racing for the RSGYC crew — but that was far from the end of the story.

Never one to sit idle, Club member James Forde put his well-known tactical instincts to good use. Spotted by Donegal Rowing Club and Olderfleet Rowing Club, he was quickly drafted into the number two seat of a combined boat. Twelve minutes after the starting gun, James crossed the line to claim a bronze medal at the All-Ireland Masters Championships — a fantastic result and a fine way to mark the Club’s first outing on the national stage.

It is exactly the kind of spirit and determination that the reformed Rowing Club is built on, and a sign of great things to come. If you have ever been curious about rowing — or are simply looking for a new challenge on the water — now is a great time to get involved. New members are very welcome.
